Thermal energy storage as a way to improve transcritical CO2 heat pump performance by means of heat recovery cycles

چکیده
Electrification of the heating sector is a major target energy transition towards more sustainable, efficient, and less polluted future. Heat pumps are considered suitable than electrical heaters or fossil-fueled boilers; however, common refrigerants cause ozone layer depletion, which exacerbates greenhouse effect. Natural refrigerants, such as CO2, perform comparably even better hydrofluorocarbons while minimizing negative aspects. This study presents model water-heater CO2 transcritical heat pump in configuration that increases overall coefficient performance (COP) by introducing thermal storage (TES). The thermodynamic cycle was divided into two separate phases. After TES (charging), warm water used fluid evaporator to increase evaporation temperature pressure reduced work compressor. As decreased progressively, discharge cycles improved total COP. case focuses on dairy processes suggests straightforward cheaper method improve efficiency current processes, ejector-expansion systems double compression.

Energy Optimization for Transcritical CO2 Heat Pumps for Combined Heating and Cooling and Thermal Storage Applications
A transcritical heat pump (THP) cycle using carbon dioxide (CO2) as the refrigerant is known to feature an excellent coefficient of performance (COP) as a thermodynamic system. Using this feature, we are designing and building a system that combines a water-to-water CO2 heat pump with both hot and cold thermal storages know as Thermal Battery (TB) (Blarke, 2012). Smart and effective use of inte...

A ground source heat pump system (GSHPS) utilizes a relatively stable underground temperature to achieve energy-saving for heating and cooling in buildings. However, continuous long-term operation will reduce the soil temperature in winter, resulting in a decline in system performance. In this research, in order to improve the system performance of a GSHPS, a ground heat pump system integrated ...
